PositionBeforeSubmission

A book by Ramzey Prentiss

What the gentle art of Jiu Jitsu teaches about pressure, leadership, and the God who holds you.

Launch date announced soon
The gentle art, pointing to the gentle Savior. Move your cursor. He is watching your position.
The grip

Most people think Jiu Jitsu is just fighting and most self help is just talk. This book is neither.

On the mat · At work · In faith

You get strong by getting low.

Position before submission

Earn it first.

When you start Jiu Jitsu, you learn that you have to earn a dominant position you cannot be swept out of. Only then can you go for the finish. If you lunge early, you risk losing everything you spent the last two minutes building.

Position 012 pts

Takedown

On the mat
Every roll starts standing. Get to the ground on your terms.
At work
Win the first inch of the day before the inbox wins it for you.
Position 023 pts

Guard pass

On the mat
Get past the legs with patience, not a lunge.
At work
Someone is guarded. Earn their trust one step at a time instead of forcing your way in.
Position 032 pts

Knee on belly

On the mat
Heavy pressure, still mobile. Ready to move when they move.
At work
Hold the standard and stay light enough to adjust.
Position 044 pts

Mount

On the mat
Dominant position, earned. Now stay calm and keep it.
At work
Be faithful in the small position. It becomes the doorway to the next one.
Position 054 pts

Back control

On the mat
The strongest control there is, and still no rush.
At work
Patience at the top is still patience.
The finish0 pts

Submission

On the mat
A submission ends the match, and it never scores a single point.
In faith
You cannot surrender into nothing. Establish your base on Christ, then surrender to Him. Position, then submission.
The gentle art

Gentle is not weak.

prausGreek · meek, gentle

Meek is strength under control. Gentleness is the capacity for harm, restrained on purpose.

The black belt could finish you in the first ten seconds, but he waits and lets you work. Jiu Jitsu was built so a smaller, calmer, wiser person could overcome a bigger, stronger, angrier one through leverage, patience, and knowing when to hold and when to let go.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
